Croatian is a member of the South Slavic language group and is the official language of the Republic of Croatia and is spoken by roughly 7 million people. While there are 3 main dialects today (Štokavian, Kajkavian and Čakavian), the written language comes mostly from the New Štokavian forms of Ijekavian pronunciation. In the 6 - 7th centuries, during the migration of the Croats, the language was was under Latin influence as the language of Western Christianity. From the 10th Century onward, Old Church Slavonic would also be important in the development of the Croatian language. Croatian started replacing Old Slavonic in the 13th and 14th Centuries; by the end of the Middle Ages, Croatian had entirely replaced it.

Of the languages to come out with a SECOND translation set, I was not expecting Croatian to be on this list. The first translations were published by Algoritam; I am curious why the need to produce a whole different translation - what was wrong with the first translation? I don't read Croatian, so if you have ideas, please send my way - I am curious.
To read more about this, read Potterglot's Announcement and/or Potter of Babble's.

The 1st Croatian translation books were first published in hardcover in 2001 by Algoritam. They feature the GrandPre cover art from the US 1st Edition books. The books were reissued by this sam publisher featuring the Jonny Duddle art as well. As far as I'm aware, there are no to minimal textblock differences with in the reissued Duddle books - if I am wrong, please let me know. I keep forgetting I don't have the 6th book from this set - when I finally remember to buy it, I'll update :)

The 2nd translation is published by Mozaik knjiga. All 7 books were translated by Dubravka Petrovic, who also translated books 4 - 7 of the 1st translation (Zlatko Crnković translated books 1 - 3). The cover art used here was first seen on the audio books; this publisher is the 1st so far to use this art in tangible books. I currently have books 1, 2 and 4, 5; I will finish out this set as the art is too fantastic not to.
